Privacy policy
Summary
Screen2Shot collects no personal data. It has no account and no advertising, and it does not track you. Screenshots, recordings and microphone audio never leave your Mac. If you leave “Share Anonymous Usage Data” on, the app sends anonymous usage counts and crash reports, described below; you can turn this off at any time.
Screen content
When you press a shortcut, Screen2Shot reads the screen through macOS’s Screen Recording permission: for a screenshot, to show the area you select; for a recording, to record the display or area you chose until you stop. Screenshots stay in memory until you copy, save or cancel. Recordings are kept in the app’s own folder on your Mac (the last five) and are never uploaded.
Microphone and system audio
Only when you turn on Microphone or System Audio in the Recording menu does the app record that sound, and only into your recording. macOS asks you before the microphone is used the first time.
Files and clipboard
Saved screenshots and videos are written only where you choose in the save dialog. Copied screenshots go to the macOS clipboard.
Anonymous usage data and crash reports
With “Share Anonymous Usage Data” on (menu bar → Screen2Shot, or Settings → General), the app sends events such as “screenshot copied”, “recording stopped” or “PRO paywall shown”, with counts and durations, the app and macOS version and your language, to three services: analytics.sshlg.me, a server we run ourselves (open-source Aptabase), which has no user, device or install identifier; Google Analytics for Firebase (Google LLC), which uses a random app-instance identifier, with advertising features switched off; and Firebase Crashlytics (Google LLC), which receives a report when the app crashes — the code location, the app and macOS version and the Mac model. None of them receives anything about what is on your screen, file or window names, or text you type; the data is not linked to you, not used for advertising and not sold. Turn the setting off and nothing more is sent to any of them; events not yet sent are deleted.
This website
screen2shot.com sets no cookies and runs no analytics or advertising scripts. It is served by Cloudflare, which keeps standard request logs (IP address, time, page) to deliver and protect the site. Emails you send to [email protected] reach the developer through Cloudflare Email Routing.
Purchases
PRO is bought through the Mac App Store, as PRO Monthly (renews every month until you cancel it in your App Store account settings) or PRO Lifetime (one purchase). Apple handles payment; we never see your payment details or Apple Account. The app learns only which plan is owned, from the App Store, and records the purchase event and its price in the usage data above.
Settings and local logs
The app stores its preferences on your Mac (welcome screen seen, last save folders, shortcuts, recording switches, the Studio look) and keeps a small diagnostic log on your Mac that is never uploaded.
Children
The app collects no data from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new date.
